Job summary

Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking a Work Zone Design Engineer (TE Specialist) to oversee the design and application of traffic control measures for construction projects on Iowa’s primary and interstate systems. You will lead efforts to ensure motorist and worker safety, maintain traffic flow, and contribute to statewide practices from the Ames Design Bureau.

The role requires collaboration with multiple stakeholders, field reviews, and participation in task forces.

Qualifications

• Active Iowa professional engineering license is required or must be obtained prior to appointment.
• Must possess and maintain a Class C Driver's License.
• No immigration sponsorship will be provided now or in the future to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Advise engineers and designers on solutions to non-standard and highly complex challenges.
• Advance innovation in safety analysis, investment optimization, technologies, and methods related to construction zone traffic control.
• Collaborate with central highway design, district design teams, and consulting partner teams to ensure training, adaptability, and efficient delivery of transportation services.
