Job summary

East Texas A&M University-Commerce Livestock/Equine Farm is seeking a student worker to gain practical experience while supporting day-to-day operations of the farm. The role involves hands-on animal care, maintenance, and farm duties at the Commerce, TX campus.

The position is ideally suited for enrolled students eligible for work-study, with responsibilities including animal care, facility upkeep, and equipment operation. Applicants may be expected to work weekends and during breaks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assists in feeding, care, sickness, diagnosis, and treatment of animals including weekends and after-hours.
• Also includes night checks certain times of the year.
• Facility/equipment maintenance including various clean-up duties at the Animal Science, Livestock, and Equine Centers.
• Vehicle/Equipment maintenance (i.e. fueling, cleaning) trucks, tractors, and equipment must have loose hay strings and grain bags removed after every use, ensure all fluid levels are full before every use. Grease it!
• Maintains accurate inventory of hay, grain, and consumables. Records hay and grain use.
• Assists with care of facilities including, but not limited to, mowing, trimming, power washing, raking, sweeping, and facility cleaning.
• Ability to operate and maintain tractors/equipment during feeding, hay production, fertilize, herbicide, wheat sowing seasons.
• Any other tasks as directed by Animal Science Faculty, Livestock/Equine Farm Supervisors, Foreman, or the Farm Manager.
• All positions are security-sensitive.
