Job Summary/Basic Function

The School-Based Navigational Coach serves as a trusted liaison among Ogden School District students and families, school personnel, and Weber State University. Assigned to district high schools and Weber State, coaches provide proactive, individualized, and culturally responsive guidance as students transition to postsecondary education.

Navigational coaches help graduating seniors complete essential steps for enrollment at Weber State, including admissions, FAFSA , financial aid, scholarships, personal statements, orientation, and connections to campus resources. They may also assist students entering grades 10–12 in applying to tuition-free summer bridge programs.

As visible representatives of Weber State, coaches must demonstrate professionalism, reliability, effective communication, and strong relationship-building skills. They proactively identify student needs, conduct outreach, follow up on outstanding requirements, coordinate with school counselors, college and career counselors, administrators, and other personnel, document interactions, and help students make measurable progress toward their postsecondary goals.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the required Ogden School District background check.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop trusting, consistent, and professional relationships with students, families, and Ogden School District staff.
  • Provide bilingual (English and Spanish), individualized support with admissions, FAFSA , financial aid, scholarships, personal statements, orientation, and other enrollment requirements.
  • Identify students who need support, conduct outreach, follow up on outstanding requirements, and help students take concrete next steps.
  • Refer and connect students and families to the WSU College Exploration Hub, Financial Aid, Student Success Center, peer mentoring, and other campus resources.
  • Assist eligible 10th-12th grade students with summer bridge opportunities and other postsecondary preparation.
  • Work closely with counselors, administrators, and other school personnel to coordinate student support.
  • Serves as a highly visible representative of Weber State and the WSU Forward program, maintaining exceptional professionalism, reliability, and communication.
  • Maintain timely, accurate records of outreach, referrals, participation, and student progress to support reporting, evaluation, and continuous program improvement.
  • Work closely with the WSU Forward team, communicate challenges early, take initiative, and contribute to continuous program improvement.
Required Qualifications
  • At least one year of experience supporting economically disadvantaged, first-generation, or historically underserved students.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish, with experience supporting bilingual and/or first‑generation communities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build trust with students and families.
  • Ability to work independently in school settings while coordinating with a central program team.
  • Ability to learn and clearly explain processes, applications, forms, deadlines, and institutional requirements.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, organization, follow‑through, and accurate record‑keeping.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher.
  • Experience in a K-12 school, college‑access program, community‑based organization, or higher education setting, particularly supporting first‑generation students and families through college transitions.
  • Experience collaborating with school counselors, administrators, or other K-12 personnel.
  • Familiarity with Weber State admissions, financial aid, FAFSA , scholarships, student services, and Scholarship Universe or similar platforms.
  • Experience using student information, case management, or data‑tracking systems.
