Job summary

YouthBuild Lakeland is a full-time six-month program in which young adults who are 18-24 years of age work to improve their lives in a variety of ways. While in the program, participants receive classroom instruction to prepare for the GED exam.

The teacher will report to the YouthBuild Senior Program Manager. Assist in teaching construction skills and provide counseling and leadership development to trainees throughout each cycle.

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of construction site experience
  • Two years' experience working with children in an educational setting
  • Commitment to helping young people succeed in an innovative training program
  • Ability to relate to a multi-racial and multi-cultural group of youths
  • Knowledge of human service, health, court and criminal justice systems' programs, regulations and procedures

  • Assist in the teaching of construction skills including rough framing, drywall, finish carpentry, painting, and other such duties.
  • Teach the proper use and handling of all hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
  • Assist in personal and vocational counseling and development of trainee leadership skills.
  • Assist in evaluation of student knowledge and skills in construction and mentor YouthBuild trainees each program cycle.

YouthBuild Lakeland is a full-time six-month program in which young adults who are 18-24 years of age work to improve their lives in a variety of ways. While in the program, participants receive classroom instruction to prepare for the GED exam. There is also a strong emphasis placed on personal development, job placement, leadership development, and community service. The teacher will report to the YouthBuild Senior Program Manager.

Assist in the teaching of construction skills including rough framing, drywall, finish carpentry, painting, and other such duties. Teach the proper use and handling of all hand tools, power tools, and equipment. Assist in personal and vocational counseling and development of trainee leadershipskills in conjunction with other YouthBuild staff. Assist in the evaluation of student knowledge and skills in construction and serve as a mentor to YouthBuild trainees each program cycle.

Qualifications:
  • 7-10 years of construction site experience
  • Two years' experience working with children in an educational setting
  • Must possess a strong commitment to helping young people succeed in an innovative training program to reorient their lives, nurture their leadership skills and enable them to make a difference in their community
  • Ability to establish rapport and relate sensitively to a multi-racial and multi-cultural group of young people. Understanding the issues facing young people in the community where the program is located and a willingness to learn from young people
  • Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills and the ability to relate to a wide range of issues, people and institutions
  • Knowledge of human service, health, court and criminal justice systems' programs, regulations, procedures and alternative programs
Compensations:

From: $1,884.62
