Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Oversee inmate work release crew and ensure compliance with WRDCC rules.
  • Attend required supervisor training and maintain WRDCC status.
  • Direct mowing, trimming, and park system maintenance tasks.
  • Coordinate equipment and transportation for assignments.
  • Provide clear work methods and safety guidance to crew.
  • Assist in carpentry, painting, plumbing, and concrete work as needed.

POSITION TITLE: Work Crew Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation & Civic Facilities

DIVISION: Park Maintenance

SALARY: $43,359.00 Yr. / $20.845673 Hr.

Job Summary

Responsible to serve as liaison between the Parks, Recreation & Civic Facilities Department, and the Western Reception Diagnostic Correctional Center. To oversee a crew of inmate workers in the maintenance of city parks, boulevards, and facilities. Oversee work in progress and provide instructions and directives to crew members. This position is contingent on the department's continuation of the inmate work release program.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Oversee inmate work release program. Ensure full departmental compliance with WRDCC rules and regulations.
  • Attend "Offender Supervisor" training administered by WRDCC. Maintain "Offender Supervisor" status with WRDCC.
  • Oversee crew of inmate workers while performing mowing, trimming, and general maintenance of the park system.
  • Discuss daily assignments with Senior Work Leader.
  • Oversees work in progress. Provides instructions regarding work methods.
  • Allocates equipment for various tasks. Oversees the transportation of inmate crews, materials, and tools.
  • Maintains inventory and Orders supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Provides instructions to crew members regarding work methods and safety on the job.
  • Assists in carpentry work, painting, plumbing, concrete, masonry, and any maintenance or construction activities.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assists in delivery of equipment for city-sponsored events and projects.
  • Helps in general maintenance of the park system.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Required (Essential) Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Skills in planning, organizing, and directing the work of others.
  • Skills in the operation of trucks, vans, mowers, chain saws, weed eaters, and other equipment used in the maintenance of parks.
  • Knowledge of department and WRDCC rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with crews.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) required or must have ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
Material and Equipment Directly Used

Operates a passenger van, pickup, dump truck, bucket truck, bobcat, tractor, backhoe; occasionally may operate other hand tools and power tools, including mowers, weed eaters, and chain saws. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Majority of work is performed in an outdoor environment, where weather conditions can vary from extreme heat and cold, with high levels of dust, dirt, fumes, and noise. Regularly drives passenger van w/trailer, occasionally operates other tools and equipment. Physical activity includes prolonged standing, bending, stooping, lifting, walking, and uses arms and hands frequently. Must have the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 to 75 pounds and assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required. One to three years of experience preferred.

Other Requirements

Applicants must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment.
