Position Overview

We are seeking a senior-level Work Control Planner (Level 4) to support critical operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This role is responsible for developing and executing detailed work packages that ensure safe, efficient, and compliant maintenance and operational activities within a highly regulated DOE environment.

You will play a key role in planning preventative and corrective maintenance, supporting facility systems, and ensuring work is executed with precision in a secure nuclear setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and review detailed work packages including labor, materials, time estimates, and step-by-step instructions
  • Create and maintain procedures, safety requirements, and testing documentation for maintenance and operational work
  • Support planning activities across mechanical, electrical, chemical, and/or radiological systems
  • Identify and resolve work constraints, ensuring packages are executable and compliant
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure successful execution
  • Drive work packages through full lifecycle (planning → execution → closure)
  • Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as Maximo or similar tools
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree + 12+ years of relevant experience OR 20+ years of direct experience without a degree
  • Strong background in work control planning, maintenance, or construction environments
  • Experience developing technical procedures and work instructions
  • Familiarity with facility systems (HVAC, boilers, utilities, etc.)
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance
  • Experience working in highly regulated environments (DOE, nuclear, Navy, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
  • DOE/NNSA or nuclear facility experience
  • Experience with Maximo, Asset Suite, or similar CMMS tools
  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or Procedure/Policy Writing certification (PPA)
  • Background in facility operations, maintenance planning, or construction support
  • Facility systems expertise (HVAC, boilers, utilities)
  • Maintenance / construction background
  • Work control planning experience (planner or manager level)
  • 100% onsite at TA-16 (LANL)
  • Secure DOE environment (Q clearance required)
  • Outdoor walkdowns and facility inspections required
  • Must be able to climb ladders and perform field walkdowns
  • Start: ASAP
  • Schedule: 4x10s
  • Duration: 1 year (strong potential for extension or LANL conversion)
  • Must be able to operate a government vehicle
Deal Breakers
  • Poor prior contractor performance at LANL
  • Inability to work 100% onsite
  • Split schedules not permitted
Why This Role

This is a high-visibility, mission-critical role supporting one of the most important facilities at LANL. Ideal for candidates with strong DOE, nuclear, or Navy backgrounds looking to step into a senior planning role with long-term potential.
