Job summary

The Crucible in Oakland, CA is seeking a Woodworking Department Head for a part-time role (24 hrs/wk). You will lead class planning, faculty recruitment, and curriculum development in a welcoming, inclusive shop environment.

Responsibilities include coordinating schedules with the Programs team, managing inventory with Studio, and mentoring instructors. The role requires woodworking expertise, teaching experience, and a commitment to equity and access.

Qualifications

• Five years of woodworking project experience.
• At least two years teaching experience.
• Ability to lead and inspire in classroom.
• Proficiency with Google Suite tools.
• Able to lift 35 lbs.
• Willing and able to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends when required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and schedule classes with faculty coordinators.
• Manage inventory and ordering with Studio.
• Lead quarterly department meetings.
• Support equity and inclusion in the department.
• Teach woodworking, including woodturning if applicable.
• Develop programming and curriculum in advance for new classes and workshops.
