Job summary

Harvard University is seeking a Woodshop Supervisor to oversee studio shops for wood and metalwork in an instructional setting. You will train, organize, and lead shop monitors, ensuring safety and confidence for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff.

The role requires a Bachelor's (or equivalent) plus 5+ years in professional/academic shops, with experience on woodworking and metalworking equipment.

Qualifications

  • College Degree (Bachelors) in a related field or related work experience, plus at least 5 years of experience in both professional and academic/instructional shops.
  • Experience using and training on woodworking and metalworking equipment.
  • Masters degree in related field and safety/OSHA certifications are a plus.
  • Experience with curriculum development and teaching at a college level.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Hires, manages, and trains 5–8 LHT employees; creates work schedules and daily task lists.
  • Develops equipment and process training for staff, faculty, students, and TA/TFs; updates training to stay current with safety regulations.
  • Assists students on classwork, research and thesis work; assists faculty and TA/TFs with class projects and demonstrations.
  • Maintains, repairs, and updates over 25 pieces of stationary wood and metal working equipment.
  • Maintains budget for woodshop and metal shop; orders materials and prepares yearly overhead costs; plans equipment updates.
