Job summary

Sonoco in Hartselle is seeking a Material Handler I to move and organize raw materials and finished wood reels throughout the facility. Reporting to the Team Lead, you will collaborate with production, shipping, and inventory to ensure timely, safe material flow.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, the ability to lift 50 pounds, and a willingness to work the Second shift (2pm–10pm) with overtime. A proven record in fast-paced environments and strong teamwork is valued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Prior material handling or warehouse experience a plus.
• Excellent attendance is crucial to ensure the team's success.
• A proven record of success in a fast-paced environment is required.
• You must be able to collaborate well with different teams and be attentive to identifying discrepancies.
• You'll take pride in your analytical and hands‑on abilities, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
• Physical requirements include lifting at least 50 pounds and standing for at least 8 hours.
• You should be able to read and comprehend manufacturing instructions.
• You'll be required to work overtime when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Load, unload, and transport wood components and finished reels using forklifts and other equipment.
• Collaborate with production team members to facilitate product/material flow and achieve critical line metrics.
• Assist the plant in various areas.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the work area and department, as well as 5S standards.
• Ensure accurate documentation of quantities loaded or unloaded.
• Execute all tasks safely and efficiently.
• Conduct a daily inspection of the material handling equipment.
