Job summary

The Oregon Department of Transportation in Klamath Falls is seeking an Information Systems Specialist 5 to serve as a Wireless Systems Specialist. You will construct, install, maintain and repair wireless two-way radio and microwave networks across your service area, supporting agency customers including Oregon State Police and Fire Marshal’s Office.

This role requires strong technical skills, regional travel, and the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders to ensure reliable

Qualifications

  • Four years of information systems experience in wireless systems.
  • Associate degree in IT, CS, or related field with two years of wireless experience OR two-year IT/vocational program with two years of wireless experience.
  • A bachelor's degree in IT/CS or related field may substitute for all above.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate situations and resolve questions or customer inquiries.
  • Install, test, replace or repair a variety of cable types.
  • Review customer’s operational needs and requests.
  • Identify, prepare and provide on-site training for customers.
  • Manage and coordinate the installation of mobile radio equipment.
  • Identify, diagnose, track and report problems and determine repair or replacement priorities.
  • Contact multiple equipment vendors to obtain technical information and request repair or upgrades.
  • Maintain systems and equipment to ensure peak operating condition.
  • Climb and work on towers and antenna structures up to 180 feet and work with high voltages.
  • Travel region-wide or statewide as needed.
  • Move or lift heavy objects over 70 pounds.
