Job summary

About this position

Network Controls and Electric Inc. has an immediate need for an experienced Wireless Survey & Fortinet Network Specialist. This role performs on-site Wi‑Fi heat mapping and surveys using Ekahau, designs wireless networks to support accurate quoting of new jobs, and configures and maintains Fortinet FortiGate infrastructure, including site-to-site IPsec VPN tunnels.

The specialist will also serve as the company's go‑to resource for customer Wi‑Fi connectivity issues - dispatched onsite to test, analyze, and resolve wireless problems for business, school, and other clients. The specialist will work closely with our estimating and field teams, and at times will participate in installations or assist in training other technicians. Some travel may be required on a case‑by‑case basis. This is an hourly position with overtime potential and shift differential pay when work is required outside of the standard schedule.

Position Responsibilities

Wireless Surveys & Design:

  • Perform on‑site Wi‑Fi heat mapping and predictive surveys using the Ekahau platform (AI Pro) and compatible survey hardware
  • Analyze survey results to identify coverage gaps, interference, and performance issues at existing customer sites
  • Design wireless network layouts - including access point placement and channel/power planning - to support accurate quoting of new jobs
  • Work with estimators to translate wireless designs into scope and materials, and support field teams during implementation
  • Participate in wireless installations and assist in training other technicians on wireless survey and installation best practices

Wireless Troubleshooting & Support:

  • Serve as the company's go‑to specialist when business, school, and other customers experience Wi‑Fi connectivity issues
  • Be dispatched onsite to test, analyze, and investigate reported wireless problems

    Wireless Platforms:

    • Configure, support, and troubleshoot enterprise wireless platforms, including Fortinet FortiAP, Ruckus, and Aruba
    • Adapt to additional wireless platforms as customer needs arise

    Fortinet / Network Security:

    • Configure and troubleshoot site-to-site IPsec VPN tunnels on Fortinet FortiGate equipment
    • Configure and maintain firewall policies and NAT
    • Assist with Fortinet SD‑WAN deployments
    • Work within FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer environments for centralized management, logging, and reporting

    General:

    • Communicate findings and job status clearly via email and company reporting systems
    • Interface with customers and assigned Project Managers throughout each engagement
    • Document survey results, network configurations, and as‑built information
    • Additional responsibilities/duties as required
    Requirements

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

    • Formal Ekahau training and/or certification required (e.g., Ekahau Certified Survey Engineer - ECSE)
    • Demonstrated experience performing wireless heat mapping, site surveys, and predictive network design
    • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex Wi‑Fi connectivity issues in enterprise and campus environments
    • Hands‑on experience configuring Fortinet FortiGate equipment, including site-to-site IPsec VPN tunnels
    • Experience with firewall policies and NAT; Fortinet SD‑WAN, FortiManager/FortiAnalyzer, and FortiAP experience strongly desired
    • Additional industry certifications (Fortinet, CompTIA, CWNA, etc.) preferred but not required
    • BDA/DAS experience a plus, but not required
    • Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office and web‑based applications
    • Teamwork oriented with mentoring skills and a willingness to help others
    • The ability to work with all departments internally
    • Strong customer service and organizational skills
    • Valid in‑state Driver's License and acceptable MVR (Motor Vehicle Report/Driving Record)

    Education Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required. associate or Tech School degree preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    • This position requires regular physical activity, including walking customer sites during surveys, climbing ladders, and lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds.
