Job summary

Viasat is seeking a Wire Harness Designer to join our aerospace and space programs. You will design cables and harnesses, generate wire lists and assembly drawings, and collaborate with systems, electrical, test and operations teams to ensure manufacturability.

The role requires deep CAD experience (SolidWorks or equivalent), IPC/WHMA-A-620 knowledge, and 5+ years in aviation/space contexts. Expect cross-functional work, mentoring, travel up to 20%, and a strong emphasis on quality standards.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of related experience in aviation and/or space applications.
• Associate of Science Degree in technology or proven work experience.
• Strong practical experience with SolidWorks, or other CAD based wire harness design tools.
• Strong oral and written skills.
• Solid understanding and use of industry standards (IPC/WHMA-A-620).
• Solid understanding of electrical schematics.
• Experience in the creation of fabrication drawings and related BOM's as well as experience with crafting processes and standardization documentation.
• Strong understanding and working knowledge of with Agile or other PLM platforms.
• US citizenship required
• Up to 15-20% travel.

What you'll do

Viasat is looking for Wire Harness Designers to join our outstanding team! In this multifaceted role, you will be responsible for the design of cables and harnesses, including all related content for various products. Your strong communication and organization skills combined with your knowledge in electrical, mechanical, and EMI design will serve you well as you generate wire lists, assembly drawings, specify connector and wire types, and work with systems, electrical, test and operations engineering teams to ensure a quality and manufacturable product.

Salary range

$120,500.00 - $190,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $149,500.00- $224,500.00/ annually. At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
