Job summary

Proviso West High School in the Proviso Township District 209 is seeking an Athletic Winter Trainer to provide athletic trainer coverage for all high school programs. The role requires maintaining current certification, evaluating injuries, and directing initial treatment and rehabilitation in coordination with team physicians.

You will cover home events and practices from fall through spring, supervise annual athletic physicals and athlete clearances, and communicate with parents regarding care

Qualifications

• Maintain current certification and continuing education requirements per the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification.
• Athletics experience preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Establish an effective athletic training program for high school athletics.
• Provide 1st aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning for student-athletes, with physician referrals as needed.
• Provide coverage at home events and practices from fall season start to spring season end.
• Coordinate annual required athletic physicals and supervise athlete clearances.
• Maintain communication with the team physician regarding health care and treatment plans.
• Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sport-specific conditioning programs.
• Maintain an efficient athletic training room and daily treatment logs.
• Communicate with parents about care and treatment of student-athletes.
• Oversee ordering of supplies, maintain inventory, and budget for the athletic training program.
• Fit protective equipment and monitor environmental risks to create a safe playing environment.
• Share professional literature with coaching staff.

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Provide athletic trainer coverage for high school athletic programs.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Establish an effective athletic training program for high school athletics.
• Provide 1st aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning for student-athletes. The athletic trainer will also be responsible for making appropriate physician referral.
• Provide coverage at home events and practices from the beginning of the fall sport season to the conclusion of the spring season.
• Coordinate the annual required athletic physicals and supervise the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during the sport seasons.
• Maintain a line of communication with the team physician(s) regarding athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries.
• Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sport specific conditioning programs and methods.
• Maintain an effective and efficient athletic training room.
• Maintain communication with parents on the care & treatment of their student-athlete.
• File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents.
• Maintain a daily treatment log.
• Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment pertaining to the athletic training room and maintain an up to date inventory. Provide the Athletic Director with an annual budget for supplies and equipment.
• Equip each team with appropriate medical equipment.
• Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment, including special taping, pads or braces.
• Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks
• Share professional literature relative to athletic training with the school's coaching staff.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

12 month position. The athletic trainer will work in accordance with a weekly schedule to be determined by the Athletic Director. Weekly schedules will vary according to the athletic season.
