Job summary

The Salvation Army Madison, IN is seeking a Warming Center Supervisor to oversee guests during the winter shelter season. You will recruit volunteers, enforce program rules, and ensure a safe, dignified environment in alignment with our low barrier approach to care for unhoused individuals.

Qualifications include a HS Diploma, driver’s license, and prior experience with unhoused populations. The role involves occasional evening/weekend work and collaboration with local social services.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma preferred but not required.
• Background Checks: Position requires a background check and results will be reviewed.
• Experience: Must have some experience working with unhoused individuals.
• Certifications: Must have a valid driver’s license and Safe From Harm training prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Will call out volunteers to cover Winter Shelter shifts and enforce safety policies.
• Supervise guests and explain program policies and consequences for violations.
• Address basic needs and orient guests to the warming center program.
• Provide supplies for basic needs including snacks, linens, containers, and hygiene items.
• Offer crisis intervention and conflict resolution as needed.
• Coordinate with community providers to address individual service needs.
• Plan and monitor guest group meetings and activities.
• Maintain daily logs and census with accurate data.
• Complete shift tasks like chores, cleaning, and intake sheets.
