Job summary

The State of Nebraska is hiring winter temporary Highway Maintenance Workers for Omaha and surrounding areas. Work includes snow removal, heavy equipment operation, and related duties in Blair, Elkhorn, Fremont, Gretna, Plattsmouth, and Omaha. Positions are temporary through March 31, 2027, with hours depending on weather and demand.

Starting pay is $20.390 per hour; CDL holders start at $21.953 per hour. Minimum qualifications: 18+ years old with a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Senior role requires Class A or B CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Snow removal
• Heavy equipment operation for road maintenance
• Tree trimming
• Respond to highway emergencies
• Move, load, and unload equipment, materials, and hazardous materials within weight restrictions
• Spread and tamp surfacing materials
• Perform other duties as assigned
