Job summary

H2ajobs is seeking an experienced herder to manage large flocks on a range, with duties including lambing support, nutrition monitoring, water management, and winter safety. The role requires ability to work in extreme winter conditions and to travel between lambing and summer range grounds.

Housing is provided by the employer, with on-range living and on-call hours. Expect 3 months of experience and references as part of the selection.

Qualifications

• 3 months experience with 800 - 1000 head flocks.
• Experience handling extreme winter conditions on a range to prevent livestock loss.
• Ability to monitor nutritional needs and provide unfrozen water and emergency feed.

Responsibilities

• Move pregnant ewes to lambing grounds.
• Identify signs of labor and assist during difficult births.
• Constrain ewes for births and graft orphan lambs to mothers.
• Provide water to animals and maintain water troughs in freezing temperatures.
• Disperse livestock on the range to reduce overcrowding and improve mother‑lamb bonding.
• Assist in branding, castration, vaccination, tagging and worming.
• Move ewes and lambs to summer range grounds.
• Some tasks may occur off-range but more than 51% on range.
