Under the High School Band Director's supervision, the candidate will work with students of varying ages and skill levels, maintain drumline equipment, and ensure safe, ethical conduct and high-quality performances.

Qualifications

  • Drum corps or university marching band experience preferred
  • Experience with percussion subgroups (snare, bass, tenor, mallets)
  • Experience teaching percussion to high school students
  • Ability to inspire students and build enthusiasm
  • Ability to tune/repair drum heads and minor repairs on drumline equipment
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Plan and instruct the winter percussion program during the December–February season
  • Select appropriate music and rehearse the ensemble for events
  • Coordinate performances at designated events and manage logistics
  • Maintain and tune drumline equipment and help with repairs as needed
  • Collaborate with the High School Band Director and staff to ensure quality shows

Job Description

The vacancy has been posted in compliance with the negotiated agreement between the Xenia Education Association and the Xenia Board of Education. All interested applicants must apply online.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the Supervision of the High School Band Director, the Winter Percussion Director is responsible for the planning and instruction of the school's percussion students during the winter pep band season (Decemberto February). The instructor prepares appropriate music and rehearses the ensemble for events.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma
  • Strong background in marching band, and percussion performance.
  • Drum corps or university marching band experience preferred.
  • Experience in the various subgroups of the percussion section (e.g. snare, bass, tenors, mallets, etc.)
  • Previous experience with instructing/teaching percussion.
  • Experience working with high school-aged students.
  • Ability to inspire students, building enthusiasm and love of the subject
  • Ability to tune/replace drum heads and do minor repairs on drumline equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, administrators, and community members. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and exercise good judgment in making decisions.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to interact with students of different ages and skill levels positively and professionally.
  • Be responsible for the selection, training, and performances at designated events.

You will need to complete the certifications below once hired.

  1. Coaches ToolChestwill certify you in all needed areas including Fundamentals of Coaching, mental health, First Aid for Coaches, Concussion Training, PBIS, CPR Training, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training.
  2. Apply for or submit a Pupil Activity Permit - through the Ohio Department of Education.
