Moonlight Basin is hiring a Winter Outfitter to deliver exceptional guest service in a high-mountain setting. You will lead outfitting activities, assist with equipment and safety briefings, and help maintain facilities and trails in a dynamic alpine environment.

The role blends hands-on outdoor instruction with hospitality duties, including snow removal, event support, and guest safety. Applicants should be able to work in snow and ice, possess CPR/First Aid, and have a valid driver\'s license;

Qualifications

• Wilderness First Aid preferred.
• Adult, infant, and child CPR and First Aid required.
• Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and personal transportation required.
• Outdoor activity facilitation experience (e.g., cross-country ski instructing, fat tire biking, snowshoeing) is a plus.
• Willing and able to transport yourself to and from work in snow and ice conditions.

Responsibilities

• Outfitting: greet members and guests with professional attitude and assist with equipment and waivers.
• Gymnasium and climbing wall: inspect equipment, fit harnesses, ensure safety and supervision.
• Facility maintenance: clean spaces, manage firewood, restock items, and maintain walkways.
• Safety and guest service: build rapport in a fun, safety-focused outdoor setting.

The Opportunity

Moonlight Basin is seeking a Winter Outfitter with the personality and ability to build trust with members, families, and guests in a safe and fun environment. Exceptional guest service, camp hosting, bartending, fire building, snow removal, and facility maintenance are all important parts of the Winter Outfitters team, with safety and fun within a unique outdoor experience as the ultimate goal.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Outfitting

• Meet and greet members and guests throughout the day with a professional attitude and appearance.

• Check members in and ensure they have completed seasonal waivers for all activities and equipment rentals.

• Check in members while greeting them, obtaining their first and last name and member number consistently for all areas.

• Assist members and guests with directions to trails and other outdoor activities.

• Check out and return all equipment while clearly explaining safety, proper use, pricing, and return policy.

• Fit members and guests for hockey and ice skating, and set them up with snow tubes, cross-country skis, and fat tire bikes while explaining proper safety precautions.

• Maintain Ulery's Lake Camp and Lake Lodge facilities, including snow removal at the yurt area, building fires, stocking the bar and hot drinks, and cleaning all facilities as necessary.

• Provide safe, fun, and professional winter snowshoe experiences, fat tire bike rides, and cross-country skiing if qualified.

• Assist with special events such as glow tubing and pick-up hockey games on the ice rink at Ulery's Lake Yurt.

• Serve snacks and hot and cold beverages for members and guests and restock all items as needed.

Gymnasium and Climbing Wall

• Take full responsibility for the gymnasium and climbing wall facility.

• Complete daily equipment inspections, including visually inspecting the climbing wall, auto belays, harnesses, and hardware.

• Fit members and guests with the correct size harness and ensure it is worn properly.

• Assist in clipping and unclipping climbers on the auto belay climbing wall and maintain safety on the ground for all ages.

Facility Maintenance

• Help maintain all spaces pertaining to Outfitters, including bathrooms, the bar top, food storage areas, and firewood areas daily, including sanitizing, cleaning, trash, and recycling.

• Maintain a high standard of organization with all fire pit tools and snow removal tools.

• Keep up with snow clearing throughout the day, maintaining walkways, decking, and patios, and keeping snow and ice clear of all areas including roofing, doorways, and the ice rink, using hand shovels and small gas-powered snow removal equipment.

Working Conditions

This position is approximately 60% indoors and 40% outdoors. Guided activities such as snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are not consistent day to day; the facility and guest service duties described above are the primary focus of the role. Work hours typically fall between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM depending on the day's activities. Field conditions are typical of southwest Montana from December through April, including exposure to weather, ice, wind, freezing temperatures, and uneven, muddy, or snowy surfaces. All activities can be learned on the job for those willing and physically able. Safe shelters and indoor facilities are available whenever inclement weather affects outdoor guided activities. When indoors, the work environment resembles a typical ski rental shop and warming hut, with moderate temperatures and low noise levels.

Physical Requirements

• Work outdoors 5–10 hours a day in all weather conditions commonly found in southwest Montana.

• Ability to use hand tools and non-motorized equipment to help maintain trails, trail signs, and activity equipment.

• Ability to bend at the waist, twist the upper body, kneel, crawl, climb, reach above the shoulders, and flex or extend the ankle, knee, and hip joints, or assume other physical positions associated with snow removal, snowshoeing, hockey, fat tire biking, Nordic skiing, and downhill ski event support.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and push or pull 10–20 pounds.
