Job summary

Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Montana is seeking a Golf Maintenance Crew Member to join our grounds team. You will help maintain a championship golf course to meet high standards of playability, safety, and appearance for members and guests.

Essential duties include daily course setup, assisting with fertilizer and chemical applications under supervision, operating walk-behind mowers and other equipment, and supporting various construction-related projects on the course.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in landscaping or turf maintenance.
• Experience operating outdoor power equipment such as mowers, chain saws, and trimmers.
• Must be able to work weekends, nights, and holidays as required.

Responsibilities

• Daily course setup including mowing greens/tees, raking bunkers, and setting markers.
• Assist with fertilizer and chemical applications under supervision.
• Maintain professional appearance and customer service around members and guests.
• Support construction projects on the golf course (drainage, silt fence, hydro-seeding, sod).
• Ensure tools and equipment are properly used, maintained, and stored.

The Opportunity

Moonlight Basin is seeking a talented and passionate Golf Maintenance Crew Member to join our grounds team, helping maintain a golf course that meets the highest standards of playability, safety, and appearance for our members and guests.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Daily course set-up including walk mowing greens and tees, raking bunkers, setting tee markers, mowing fairways & roughs, cutting cups, hand watering, and sweeping cart paths.

• Assist crew members with the application of fertilizers and chemical applications under the supervision of a licensed applicator.

• Maintain a professional appearance and attitude while working around members and guests.

• Assist with a variety of construction-related projects on the golf course, including drainage installation, silt fence installation and maintenance, erosion matting, hydro-seeding, laying or hand watering new sod, seeding greens or tees, leveling irrigation heads, and bunker maintenance.

• Maintain a professional appearance at all times when on the property.

• Ensure all tools, equipment, vehicles, and supplies are properly used, maintained, and stored.

• Maintain positive interactions with club members and guests, providing a high level of customer service.

• Perform any and all duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent or other members of the senior management team, as deemed appropriate.

Competencies

• General understanding of the game of golf preferred.

• Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in landscape maintenance work.

• Ability to work both individually and as part of a team with other grounds crew members.

• Ability to follow written and oral directions from a supervisor or manager.

• Ability to understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and other safety instructions.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in the landscaping and/or turf industry preferred.

• Prior experience operating outdoor power equipment, including walk-behind mowers, chain saws, and trimmers.

• Ability to safely operate hand tools and power equipment related to golf course maintenance.

• Must comply with Moonlight Basin's Dress and Grooming policies.

• Must be dependable and available to work weekends, nights, and/or holidays based on business demands.

• Must be able to work flexible and long hours as business demands require.

• Punctuality and regular, reliable attendance.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods outdoors (up to 10 hours per shift).

• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds independently.

• Ability to safely operate walk-behind and riding mowing equipment, hand tools, and occasionally tractors and loaders.

• Manual dexterity to handle mowing equipment, hand tools, and maintenance supplies with precision and safety.

• Ability to perform daily responsibilities outdoors in all weather conditions, including sun, heat, cold, and precipitation.

• Must have the stamina to perform physically demanding, repetitive tasks such as mowing, raking, and digging.

• Ability to safely navigate uneven, wet, or sloped terrain around the golf course.

• Comfortable working long shifts, weekends, and holidays based on seasonal business demands.
