Qualifications:
- Second language (speaking, reading, and/or writing)
- Knowledge of imported and domestic varieties, flavor profiles, and production methods
- Knowledge of industry trends in specialty wines and beers as they relate to consumers
- Experience working with wine and beer
- Retail experience
- High school education or equivalent
- Must be 21 years of age
- Ability to handle stressful situations
- Effective communication skills
- Knowledge of basic math
- Pass wine test once employed
Responsibilities:
- Promote trust and respect among associates
- Create an environment that makes customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions about products sold within the department and throughout the store
- Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to customer questions and suggestions
- Offer product samples, following company guidelines and laws, to help customers discover new items
- Inform customers of wine specials
- Provide customers with requested products
- Recommend wine items to ensure customer needs are met
- Assist with pairing wine and other items like meats, cheeses, and desserts
- Collaborate with store chef for tastings and wine programs
- Stay current with ads and promotions
- Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers, and keep logs
- Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify management
- Inspect equipment and report repairs needed
- Report customer or employee accidents and safety hazards
- Report illegal activities such as theft or fraud
- Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation
