Windows Server Administrator - IT Department

Newark, DE

In 1954, the Blood Bank of Delmarva was established in the Delmarva region as a private, not for profit agency to collect, test, and distribute blood products. Today, the Blood Bank of Delmarva is a division of New York Blood Center Enterprises and is among the nation's premium providers of blood products and services and an integral part of the Delmarva community's health care system. As of October 2019, the Blood Bank of Delmarva employs approximately 175 full- and part-time employees. Our employees are committed to the Blood Center's mission of providing a safe and adequate blood for patients within our community.

The Windows Server Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of Windows Server technologies within a complex, multi-data center environment connected by an SD-WAN network. This role ensures the stability, performance, and scalability of enterprise systems supporting both on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure across the NYBCe organization.

Schedule: Full-Time - Days, Evenings, & Weekends (as needed/on call)

Responsibilities

Primary Duties, Responsibilities or Activities Required by Job

  • Windows Server Administration
    • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), DNS, DHCP, and File Services.
    • Administer server roles, including IIS, Remote Desktop, and Print Services.
    • Perform routine patching, backups, and system updates to ensure security and reliability.
  • Clustering & High Availability
    • Configure and manage Windows Server clustering for High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR).
    • Ensure data integrity and continuity through robust storage solutions and clustering techniques.
  • Virtualization & Cloud
    • Administer virtualization platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, and Parallels RAS.
    • Collaborate on cloud integrations with Azure and AWS for hybrid environments.
  • Networking & Security
    • Configure protocols, including SFTP, SSH, SNMP, SMTP, and FTP.
    • Manage SSL certificates, network access controls, and security best practices.
  • Monitoring & Troubleshooting
    • Utilize monitoring tools like PRTG and SCCM for proactive system performance and health checks.
    • Resolve escalated incidents and support DR plans to minimize downtime.
  • Scripting & Automation
    • Develop PowerShell and batch scripts to streamline administrative tasks.
    • Automated server provisioning and monitoring workflows.
  • Database & Applications
    • Install and configure SQL Server, ensuring compatibility with infrastructure and applications.
    • Support specialized systems, including RemoteApps and Citrix environments.
  • Documentation & Collaboration
    • Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations and processes.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver IT solutions aligned with business objectives.

Other Secondary Functions

  • Prepare various reports.
  • Attends conferences, seminars, as required.
  • Works on special projects as assigned.
  • Makes recommendations to improve business and organizational processes, unit practices, and processes.
  • Any related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education

Minimum Requirement:

  • Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field with significant relevant experience in Infrastructure management.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.

Experience

Minimum Requirement:

  • Candidates should have 3-5 years of relevant experience in IT infrastructure administration and management.

Preferred:

  • Candidates should have 5-7 years of relevant experience in IT infrastructure administration and management, including:
    • 2-4 years of hands-on experience with virtualization platforms and hybrid cloud setups.
    • 2-4 years of experience scripting automation and managing DR strategies.

Preferred Licenses / Certification

Certification in relevant technologies like:

  • Microsoft: MCP, Azure Fundamentals
  • CompTIA: A+, Server+, Cloud+
  • VMware, Hyper-V
  • AWS: Foundational or Associate-level certifications
  • Linux: LPI or CompTIA Linux+
  • ITIL

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA’s)

Knowledge:

  • Extensive experience in Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Entra ID, GPOs, SCCM, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Proficiency with clustering, virtualization, and cloud-based administration (Azure/AWS).
  • Strong knowledge of protocols (SFTP, SSH, SNMP, SMTP, FTP) and security practices.
  • Expertise in scripting languages (PowerShell, batch) and automation tools.
  • Experience with monitoring tools like PRTG and SolarWinds.
  • Familiarity with database management (SQL Server) and application delivery (RemoteApps, Citrix).
