Job summary

Amaris Consulting is seeking an experienced software engineer to own and evolve Windows-based configuration software for fire alarm control panels. You will work across desktop tools and embedded firmware, ensuring robust validation and reliable data handling.

The role requires 5–8 years of hands-on C++/C# development, Windows desktop experience, and strong debugging skills. Onsite in Westford, MA for 3 days/week, in a safety-critical, Agile environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 5–8 years of professional software development with hands-on C++ and C#.
• Strong Windows desktop development experience (.NET, WinForms and/or WPF).
• Solid OO design, data structures, algorithms, and debugging skills.
• Experience with serial/TCP-IP communication between an app and a device.
• Version control and CI workflows (Git and/or Azure DevOps).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Windows configuration software for fire alarm panels.
• Build features for panel programming, device configuration, and data validation.
• Interface between desktop tool and embedded firmware over serial/IP.
• Write unit and integration tests; participate in code reviews.
• Debug across software, device communication, and data integrity domains.
• Contribute to maintainable, well-documented codebase and design specs.
• Collaborate with firmware, hardware, QA, and product teams in Agile sprints.
• Assist in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
• Support root-cause analysis for field issues and reproduce/diagnose defects.
• Create technical documentation including API references and validation rules.
• Mentor junior engineers across desktop/firmware boundaries.
