Job summary

Gerkin Windows & Doors is seeking a Window Design Engineer to design, develop, test, and support the manufacturing of window products at our Nebraska facility. You will design and improve windows and doors to meet performance standards and customer expectations while enabling safe, efficient manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3+ years of product design, manufacturing engineering, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience in window, fenestration, building products, extrusion, glass, or manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software and Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop window products, components, and assembly processes.
  • Create and revise engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, and product documentation.
  • Develop 3D models, detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, and manufacturing work instructions using CAD software.
  • Evaluate materials, hardware, glass systems, weatherstripping, seals, and frame components for performance and manufacturability.
  • Support new product development from concept through prototype, testing, production launch, and ongoing improvement.

Job description

The Window Design Engineer designs, develops, tests, and supports the manufacturing of window products. This position includes designing and improving the windows and doors manufactured at our facility. in order to meet and exceed customer expectations, performance standards, industry required design standards, and to facilitate safe and efficient manufacturing processes.

Essential Duties:
  • Design and develop window products, components, and assembly processes
  • Create and revise engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and product documentation
  • Develop 3D models, detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, and manufacturing work instructions using CAD software
  • Evaluate materials, hardware, glass systems, weatherstripping, seals, and frame components for performance, quality, cost and manufacturability
  • Support new product development from concept through prototype, testing, production launch, and ongoing product improvement
  • Coordinate and assist with prototype construction, product validation, and performance testing
  • Analyze test results and field, production, warranty, or customer services issues identifying root causes and recommend corrective actions
  • Work closely with manufacturing, purchasing, sales, and customer service to resolve technical concerns and improve product performance
  • Design products and processes that support safe, efficient, repeatable manufacturing and installation
  • Review existing products and processes for opportunities to improve quality, reduce waste, simplify assembly, reduce costs, and increase production capacity
  • Maintain accurate engineering change documentation and communicate revisions to affected departments
  • Assist with product certification, code compliance, and documentation related to window performance requirements
  • Provide technical assistance to internal teams and, as needed, customers, dealers, architects, or installers
  • Maintain organized engineering files, drawings, calculations, testing records, and revision histories
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Design, or related engineering discipline preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered
  • Three or more years of product design, manufacturing engineering, or related experience preferred
  • Experience in window, fenestration, building products, extrusion, glass, or manufacturing environments is strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to read and create technical drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and manufacturing documentation
  • Working knowledge of design for manufacturability, tolerances, materials, fabrication, assembly processes, and quality principles
  • Familiarity with window performance requirements, including air, water, structural, thermal, and operational performance, is preferred
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, and project management skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and design changes in a deadline driven manufacturing environment
Physical and Work Requirements:
  • Ability to work in an office, engineering, laboratory, and production floor environment
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move prototypes, samples, tools, or materials up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to safely observe and support manufacturing, testing, and product development activities
