Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Wind Technician to support the wind team and facility, ensuring safe operations and adherence to SH&E policies. You will assist in inspections, troubleshooting, and timely repairs of turbines, generators, exciters, transformers, and balance of plant equipment.

Responsibilities include safe startup/shutdown, equipment control, and coordination with engineering and OEMs. Travel and climbing requirements apply; strong safety mindset is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• Experience in wind industry or power plant operations is desirable.
• Must possess valid state driver’s license and climbing ability.

Responsibilities

• Assure safe start-up, operation and shutdown of turbines and related equipment.
• Perform inspections, monitoring and repairs on mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Use basic troubleshooting to diagnose equipment issues and document results.
• Operate control devices and review plant performance against standards.
• Assist in maintaining plant reliability and equipment inventories.
