Job summary

GE Renewable Energy in Idaho Falls is seeking a Wind Technician to execute contractual obligations and maintain wind turbine generators. You will troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems, perform preventive maintenance, and document work in service reports.

This hands-on role requires the ability to climb towers, lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly, work rotating shifts, and travel within Idaho sites. A high school diploma, relevant experience or certificates, and US work authorization are

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1+ year experience as a Wind Technician/Wind Mechanic, or completed Wind Certificate Program/Associate’s Degree in Energy, or 2 years of electrical work experience.
  • Passing a Technical Knowledge Assessment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to handle repetitive weight of 50 lbs. and climb towers up to 300 feet daily.
  • Must meet manufacturer weight limits not exceeding 300 lbs. including required gear.
  • Ability and willingness to work in industrial, manufacturing, and power industry facilities.
  • Ability to prioritize work according to contract obligations.
  • Ability and willingness to take initiative and work without direct supervision.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts and on-call schedules.
  • Occasional overnight work as required.
  • Ability to obtain authorization to access U.S. export-controlled information, if applicable
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable

Responsibilities

  • Execute contractual obligations and customer-required activities with site and hub leadership.
  • Work on electrical and mechanical equipment used in GE wind turbine generators.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement of parts to correct malfunctions.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable-pitch and variable-speed turbines.
  • Support all areas of site operations as directed by the manager with minimal supervision.
  • Observe all safety requirements.
  • Perform diagnostic electrical analysis.
  • Document work using computer-based service reporting procedures.
  • Work with GE’s remote operations center when necessary.
  • Travel locally within the Idaho 1 hub and work at all assigned wind sites.
