Job summary

State of South Dakota's Department of Game, Fish & Parks in Mitchell is seeking a Wildlife Damage Intern for the Summer session (May–August). You will learn wildlife damage management techniques, help with exclusion fences for geese, turkeys, and deer, and gain hands-on field experience.

The internship involves operating equipment, data entry, and record keeping, with preference for current part-time or full-time students who have completed at least one year of college and are from South Dakota

Qualifications

• Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute in the time of application.
• By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their program.
• Preference may be given to juniors/seniors, SD residents, and SD institution students.

Responsibilities

• Learn wildlife damage management techniques and assist senior staff.
• Work on exclusion fences and hazing for geese, turkeys, and deer.
• Operate and maintain equipment and vehicles; perform data entry and record keeping.
• Support regional wildlife damage specialists in southeastern SD.
