Job summary

South Dakota State Government, Department of Game, Fish & Parks, offers a Summer Wildlife Damage Intern position in Sioux Falls. Interns will assist in wildlife damage management, learn exclusion fencing for geese, turkeys, and deer, and gain experience in hazing, trapping for nuisance animals, and banding migratory birds.

They will also learn to operate and maintain equipment and vehicles and perform record keeping and data entry.

Qualifications

• Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply.
• Preference may be given to juniors/seniors, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.

Responsibilities

• Assist Regional Wildlife Damage Specialists with wildlife damage management techniques.
• Learn methods of exclusion fencing for Canada Geese, turkeys, and deer.
• Learn hazing practices, some trapping for nuisance animals and beavers, and banding migratory game birds.
• Operate and maintain equipment and vehicles (pickup trucks, tractors, UTVs, kayaks, boats with motors).
• Record keeping and data entry.
