Job summary

State of South Dakota's Department of Game, Fish & Parks in Sioux Falls seeks a Wildlife Damage Intern for the Summer session (May–August). Qualifications

  • Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply.
  • By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
  • All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Intern will perform wildlife damage management techniques to assist the Regional Wildlife Damage Specialists in southeastern South Dakota.
  • Intern will learn methods of exclusion fences for Canada Geese, turkeys, and deer.
  • Intern will also learn hazing practices, some trapping for nuisance animals and Beavers, banding migratory game birds, and other management assignments regarding wildlife damage.
  • Record keeping and data entry will be another area of skill development.
