Job summary

ruralmetrofire is seeking a Wildland Firefighter – Insurance Division to support fire prevention, mitigation, and suppression activities within the insurance program. The role involves station and equipment upkeep, drills, public outreach, and potential to be assigned to incidents across the western United States.

Responsibilities include operating vehicles and tools safely, working varied shifts (including nights and weekends), and complying with onboarding capacity tests.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Current CPR/AED certification.
• Valid driver license with good driving record.
• Able to work any shift, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
• Ability to pass a work capacity test during onboarding.
• Proficient in using a computer and common software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of current wildland firefighting practices, especially in WUI environments.
• Prior wildland firefighting experience preferred.
• EMT certification desired.

Responsibilities

• Maintain day-to-day operations of the fire station and equipment.
• May serve as Driver/Operator or Wildland Fire Captain as needed.
• Conduct wildfire safety checks and pre-fire planning inspections.
• Participate in drills and training programs.
• Provide information to the public and participate in outreach events.
• Work shifts as assigned, including nights, holidays, and weekends; incidents may last 14–21 days.
• Operate company vehicles and firefighting tools safely.
