Job summary

The Nature Conservancy seeks a Fire Management Technician to support wildland fire operations, burn unit prep, ignition, control, and ongoing monitoring in support of longleaf pine ecosystems and rare species. The role emphasizes hands-on field work, equipment maintenance, and collaboration with partners.

Ideal candidates will have FFT2 qualifications, a high school diploma, and the ability to operate equipment, obtain necessary licenses, and follow established safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Must be qualified as a Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2), including I-100, L-180, S-190, S-130, and one trained burn under FFT2.
• Must achieve physical fitness standard per local Fire Manager and TNC Fire Management Manual.
• Experience operating various types of equipment.
• Must obtain related licenses or certifications (First Aid, CPR).
• Ability and willingness to follow instructions from colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Participate in wildland fire operations including burn unit prep, ignition, control, mop-up and suppression.
• Monitor conditions and maintain equipment; perform stewardship tasks as assigned.
• Work with partners and community fire programs; may serve as volunteer or short-term staff with partner entities.
• Keep up-to-date with burn techniques and fire certification credentials.
