Job summary

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) North Unit seeks an Assistant Fire Management Officer (Wildland Fire Management Specialist) to lead fire management efforts in the Pacific Cascade Region, based in Menlo or Chehalis, WA. Responsibilities include supervising crews, planning training, coordinating with agencies, and guiding fire suppression activities during the season.

Qualifications include NWCG leadership credentials, supervisory experience, and a degree in Fire Science

Qualifications

  • You must meet all the Required Qualifications and Competencies.
  • Any Single Resource Boss qualification is acceptable.
  • Certified NWCG Incident Commander Type 5 or higher.
  • Supervisory experience in fire management.
  • Experience developing and implementing operational plans.
  • Experience interpreting agreements and contracts.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements wildland fire training for seasonal crews and interagency cooperators.
  • Supervises 3 seasonal engine crews and 1 engine supervisor or heavy equipment operator.
  • Develops and implements annual project work plans for staff and coordinates with other program managers.
  • Establishes Unified Command and coordinates with other agencies on joint fires.
  • Reviews initial incident reports, fire situation narratives, investigations, and accomplishment reports.
  • Occasionally acts as initial attack IC or attends Agency Representative meetings.
