Job summary

State of Wyoming is seeking a Smokebuster Crew Supervisor to lead up to 10 pre-release inmates on wildland fires and forestry projects. You will supervise safety, performance, and workflow while instructing in NWCG standards and equipment use.

Role requires licensing, NWCG certification within 1 year, and participation in WDOC training. The job is co-located with the Wyoming DOC at a conservation camp in Newcastle, WY, offering meaningful public service and diverse outdoor work.

Qualifications

• Must possess NWCG PMS 310-1 cert or ability to obtain within 1 year.
• Experience supervising inmate crews on wildland or forestry work.
• Proven ability to lead, train, and supervise crews safely.
• Knowledge of NWCG standards and safety protocols.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise up to 10 pre-release inmates on fires and forestry projects.
• Ensure accountability, safety, and workflow of the crew.
• Instruct crews in wildland firefighting and equipment use.
• Maintain records, timesheets, and evaluations.
• Operate and maintain forestry equipment and vehicles.
• Provide on-the-job coaching and performance feedback.
