Job summary

The Burn Crew Member (BCM) participates in wild land fire operations in Hayward, Wisconsin, with an hourly rate of $22.00. The position is funded through October 1, 2027 and follows a four‑day week of ten hours per day, with occasional irregular or overnight shifts.

Housing is not provided and travel may be required up to 16 weeks per year. Eligible candidates will bring a high school diploma, FFT2 readiness, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to perform heavy physical work in varied

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must obtain FFT2 qualifications including I-100, L-180, S-190, S-130, and training burn under FFT2.
• Must meet local physical fitness standards.
• Experience operating equipment (4-wheel drive, weed whackers, leaf blowers, chainsaw).
• Licenses/certifications such as First Aid, CPR.

Responsibilities

• Will perform other preserve management duties when conditions are not conducive to prescribed fire.
• Works in a high-stress team environment.
• Works under close supervision.
• Ability to perform heavy physical work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
