Job summary

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Home Assessment Team Member engages residents to plan, prepare, and mitigate wildfire risks. You assess homes and communities, create priority reports for mitigation actions, and guide residents to funding sources and resources.

This field role emphasizes hands-on, in-person work in the Wildland Fire Management Program. You will work a 4-10 schedule in-person, with potential overtime during major incidents and opportunities to join incident management teams.

Qualifications

  • NFPA Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Certification required within 2-year of hire.
  • GED or High School Diploma is required.
  • Minimum one year of experience.
  • Strong presentation and community education abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Engages and educates residents and communities on wildfire mitigation and preparedness strategies.
  • Plans, prepares, and coordinates individual home and community wildfire assessments.
  • Conveys wildfire risk and mitigation guidance across various wildland fuel types.
  • Guides residents toward funding sources for mitigation actions.
  • Develops educational materials and delivers presentations to homeowner and community groups.
  • Walks terrain year-round to conduct assessments and reports.
