Job summary

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare’s Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program seeks a Nutrition Manager to support statewide WIC operations. You will lead local agency activities, ensure policy compliance, and serve as a key resource for clinic operations and program guidance.

The role involves supervising Nutrition Specialists and the Breastfeeding Coordinator, coordinating staff, and traveling to trainings and site reviews. Some telework may be available after probation.

Qualifications

Want to join Idaho WIC and help shape a healthier future for families statewide?The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare’s Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program is seeking a Nutrition Manager to support statewide WIC operations. While the main office is located in Boise, we are accepting applicants statewide.
In this role, you will be a key leader supporting local WIC agencies in delivering the nation’s premier public health nutrition and breastfeeding program. You’ll serve as a primary resource for clinic operations, policy development, compliance with federal and state requirements, and overall program guidance.
This position is ideal for someone passionate about maternal and child nutrition, motivated to improve statewide program quality, and experienced in project management, staff supervision, and monitoring. The successful candidate will be collaborative, organized, and ready to make a meaningful impact for Idaho families.

This is a statewide position that will report to the nearest DHW office. The assigned work location will depend on workstation availability at a DHW office.

This position may be eligible for limited telework after successful completion of probation and necessary training. Approval to telecommute is not guaranteed and subject to termination at any time.

  • Contribute to strategic planning and program direction as part of the Idaho WIC Management Team.
  • Provide direct supervision to Nutrition Specialists and the Breastfeeding Coordinator.
  • Manage collaborative team projects while setting and steering strategic priorities.
  • Travel in‑state and out‑of‑state to attend trainings and conduct site reviews of local WIC agencies.
  • Monitor compliance with federal regulations and offer consultation and technical assistance to local agencies.
  • Develop, recommend, and coordinate implementation of WIC policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with local WIC agency Coordinators.
  • Serve as the program lead during federal reviews and audits related to nutrition, breastfeeding, or clinic operations.
  • Develop and deliver training, tools, and materials for local agencies.
  • Serve as lead for program complaints, civil rights complaints, and fair hearings.
  • Conduct desk reviews and onsite monitoring to ensure local agencies meet federal and state requirements and adhere to Idaho WIC policies.
MINIMUM/SPECIALTY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Considerable knowledge of health program needs assessment and program development, implementation, and evaluation. Typically requires completion of a Bachelor's degree, or higher, in health or a health science field such as public health, health education, nursing, environmental health, public health administration, or a related field, plus four years of related experienceORa Master's degree in a related field and two years of related experienceORat least eight years of full-time working experience directly in this field.
  • Experience developing and implementing or managing public health programs. Typically requires at least two years of experience developing and implementing public health program(s)ORone year of experience managing a public health program including developing a work plan of goals, objectives and activities, developing a program evaluation process and a program budget.
  • Experience coordinating health services or public health programs with various agencies and organizations. Typically requires a minimum of one year of experience coordinating health services or public health programs with various agencies and organizations.
  • Experience providing health program consultation to organizations and programs. Typically requires a minimum of one year of experience providing health program consultation to organizations and programs.
  • Experience evaluating health related educational materials. Typically requires a minimum of one year of experience evaluating health related educational materials.
  • Experience writing grant proposals.Typically requires a minimum of one year of experience writing grant proposals.
SPECIALTY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and eligible for Idaho Dietitian licensure in accordance with Idaho Code, Section 54-3506. If not currently licensed by the State of Idaho, the selected candidate will be required to obtain licensure within 6 months of hire.
Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.
  • Experience conducting monitoring, reviews, or site visits. Typically gained by performing program oversight activities in a government, nonprofit, or healthcare setting.
  • Professional experience working in a WIC clinic. Typically gained by at least six months of documented work experience.
  • Supervisory experience. Typically gained by at least six months of overseeing or leading a team in a supervisory capacity.
  • Project management experience. Typically gained by at least six months of experience coordinating projects or deliverables.
