Job summary

Navigators, a Brand of The Hartford, is seeking an Underwriting Director for its Wholesale Property unit to lead underwriting, servicing and growth of an E&S property book with wholesale brokers. The role covers full limits, primary, excess and quota share, including risk analysis and advisory capabilities for complex accounts.

The candidate will guide strategy, coach staff, engage brokers as a trusted advisor and ensure alignment with One Hartford initiatives while maintaining profitability.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of E&S property underwriting experience required.
• Experience with wholesale insurance brokers preferred.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Analytical thinker who can propose data-driven solutions.
• High energy self-starter with time and desk management skills.
• Goal-oriented and capable of delivering outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Underwrites new and renewal business across E&S property segments.
• Underwrites with appropriate authority and adherence to guidelines.
• Mentors junior underwriters and supports team growth.
• Proposes account programs reflecting risk, exposure, loss history and profitability.
• Builds territory sales plans and manages broker relationships.
• Coordinates with product/referral teams when needed.
• Stays informed on laws affecting the business and profitability trends.
