Job summary

Navigators, a Brand of The Hartford, is seeking an Underwriting Director to lead E&S Property underwriting for Wholesale operations in a hybrid work setting. You will underwrite, service, and grow a profitable book through wholesale brokers, handling diverse classes including habitational and light manufacturing.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of E&S property underwriting experience.
• Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with internal and external partners.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions.
• High energy self-starter with resilience and entrepreneurial spirit.
• Solid time, organizational, and desk management skills.
• Goal-oriented with a track record of delivering outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Underwrites new and renewal business; may have high levels of authority.
• Analyzes regional book of business and creates action plans with manager.
• Applies underwriting guidelines rigorously in account decisions.
• Coaches and supports junior underwriters on the team.
• Proposes account programs reflecting risk quality, exposures, losses, and profit goals.
• Independently builds territory sales plans to achieve financial targets.
• Develops and executes strategies for new and renewal broker accounts.
• Serves as local lead in broker planning and broker check-ins where appropriate.
• Educates others on strategy and involves manager as needed.
• Conducts cost/benefit analyses before changes.
