Job description

  • Institutional Credit Management Risk Analysis (IRAUs) is an integral part of the Institutional Credit Management (ICM) Underwriting organization. The IRAUs mandate is to deliver best-in-class credit risk analysis, monitoring and credit administration as a partner to ICM Risk and Banking shared commitment to ensuring the safety and soundness of wholesale lending across ICM.
  • ICM Risk Analysis Credit Risk Analysts are responsible for a portfolio of ICM Risk Relationships, owning the Credit Risk Analysis for those relationships, and being responsible for the continuous monitoring of that portfolio. Credit Risk Analysts are expected to use their industry and financial knowledge to perform credit assessments, including applying discretionary judgment on aspects that relate to credit risk ratings, regulatory classification and credit recommendation to second line of defense. That includes the production of Annual Reviews, Quarterly Reviews, Transactions memos.
  • A Credit Risk Analyst is expected to have a basic understanding of credit risk, leveraging off an academic background Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration. They should need close supervision from their respective Credit Risk Team Lead but take each interaction opportunity to further learn about credit risk, industry fundamentals, effective writing and communication.
  • This role role reports directly to the assigned portfolio's Credit Risk Team Lead.
  • Key Responsibilities :
  • Assess the credit and financial strength of Citis counterparts by performing fundamental credit analysis of counterparties using both quantitative and qualitative factors
  • Complete Credit Analysis Write-up Memos and Final Obligor Risk Ratings of Citis Counterparties based on independent assessment and judgement completed on the due diligence of the client and industry knowledge to provide appropriate extensions of credit remaining within Risk appetite.
  • Perform Transaction memos approvals in a timely manner according to Business priority, discretionary recommendation should be documented in the memo on the proposal.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgement based on the analysis performed to make recommendations to second line of defense on risk ratings, classifications and proposal.
  • Continuous monitoring of the covered portfolio, including following industry trends, impacts to key relationships, and escalation of potential credit issues to IRAU Team Leads, ICM Risk and Banking partners
  • Partnership with applicable regional and industry stakeholders in Banking and Independent Risk in the implementation of credit assessment and monitoring standards for applicable portfolios
  • Support ICM Risk Analysis Voice of the Employee (VOE) initiatives
  • Travel (less than 10%)
  • Risk & Credit Underwriting :
  • Fundamental analytical skills, including an understanding of key financial components (liquidity position, leverage profile) with the ability to identify root causes and trends and anticipate horizon issues
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of financial statements and GAAP accounting or similar governance relating to country of operation
  • Displays basic industry research capabilities, including risk and key drivers
  • Basic understanding of Credit Policy and procedures; proactively refers to resources as needed
  • Demonstrates ability to identify potential risk issues that need escalation and escalates them promptly
  • Able to articulate orally and in written credit recommendations for decision making using judgement and knowledge from the credit analysis
