Job summary

Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is seeking a regulatory professional to administer the 401 Water Quality Certification and the State Regulated Wetlands Program in the Wetlands Section, Office of Water Quality. The role includes guiding regulated entities, reviewing federal permit submissions, and conducting outreach to public stakeholders across Indiana.

A valid Indiana driver’s license is required; travel to assess sites and interact with communities is expected.

Qualifications

• Broad knowledge of environmental protection principles and practices
• Thorough knowledge of chemistry, biology, hydrology, mathematics and environmental sciences
• Ability to conduct surveys, inspections and investigations of facilities and sites
• Excellent research and writing skills for reports
• Ability to interact with diverse parties in meetings, hearings and negotiations
• Ability to apply legal terminology to various conditions

Responsibilities

• Administer state regulatory programs including 401 Water Quality Certification and Wetlands Program
• Review applications for federal permits to ensure compliance with state water quality standards
• Prepare and deliver outreach materials and respond to public requests
• Provide guidance and technical support to regulated communities and government officials
• Conduct field work, site inspections and environmental sampling as required
• Ensure compliance actions and enforcement when necessary
