Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) to deliver trauma-informed medical forensic services to sexual assault survivors. The SANE provides exams, evidence collection, counseling on emergency contraception, STI prevention, documentation, and supports participation in legal proceedings.

Qualifications

• BSN or ADN with commitment to obtain BSN within three years of first day
• Current Illinois RN license in good standing
• BLS certification on hire
• Completion of IL SANE Clinical Training within 1 year
• IAFN approved 40-hour didactic class
• IL SANE Clinical Training Log Completion

Responsibilities

• Acts autonomously following professional standards under SASETA and IL Nurse Practice Act
• Collaborates with SANE coordinator and interdisciplinary team to care for survivors
• Maintains documentation standards for compliance and confidentiality
• Maintains survivor privacy and chain of custody for evidence
• Keeps up-to-date with regulatory guidelines for SANE practice
• Educates survivors and families to meet emotional and healthcare needs
• Performs safe, compliant work and reports hazards
• Testifies in court and assists SANEs in court preparation
• Shares knowledge and participates in orientation for new staff
• Supports quality improvement to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction
• Ensures ongoing education and current standards in Forensic nursing
