Across the western United States, ports, ferry agencies, terminal operators, utilities, and public infrastructure owners are making significant investments to electrify facilities, fleets, vessels, and terminal operations while advancing broader decarbonization and sustainability objectives. A combination of rapidly expanding market demand, increasing regulatory requirements, major grant funding opportunities, utility infrastructure challenges, and the need for coordinated implementation strategies creates an opportunity for a senior leadership position focused on Waterfront Electrification. Major initiatives underway throughout the West Coast include:

  • Port and terminal electrification

We are actively looking for a West Coast Waterfront Electrification & Decarbonization Senior Port Planner to join our Seattle office. This position would strengthen Moffatt & Nichol's ability to capture, deliver, and implement integrated electrification programs while creating a framework for mentorship, technical leadership, and growth across multiple disciplines and office locations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a core participant in the West Coast Waterfront Electrification & Decarbonization Leadership (PD&E) team. As part of the team, work within the Ports Practice and PD&E Leads for the development and implementation of Moffatt & Nichol's waterfront decarbonization strategy across port, ferry, maritime, and waterfront infrastructure sectors
  • Advise clients on electrification, resiliency, utility coordination, funding, phased implementation, and evolving air quality and climate regulations
  • Seller doer role to engage with clients, capture strategic projects and assist in the execution. Support expansion of existing client relationships while establishing new relationships throughout the maritime sector. Coordinate with account managers, business unit leaders, and practice leaders to identify strategic growth opportunities associated with electrification, decarbonization, sustainability, and infrastructure implementation programs
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams across West Coast offices, helping clients move from studies and pilots to multi-year implementation programs
  • Facilitate collaboration between planning, environmental, infrastructure, engineering, funding, and implementation teams
  • Expand emissions modeling in terminal planning tools and apply AIS data, Python analytics, and AI-enabled workflows
  • Mentor staff and represent M&N at conferences and industry groups such as WPPA, AAPA, CMANC, and PIANC

Qualifications:

  • Communicates compellingly to executives and stakeholders; emissions modeling and data analytics experience; preferred
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Physical Requirements:

Work is generally performed in an office or client office setting. Ability to use standard office equipment is required. Travel will be required.

Base Salary Range:

$208,000 to $254,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting the required qualifications in the job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and based in the Washington market.
