Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol, a leading U.S.-based infrastructure advisor, seeks a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer to join the MEI team in San Diego or Long Beach. You will design power and lighting systems for waterfront projects and collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients on-site and in the office.

The role requires CA PE or reciprocity within 18 months, 6–10+ years in power distribution, grounding and equipment design, plus AutoCAD/Revit proficiency; ETAP/EasyPower a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology; required.
  • Professional Engineer licensure in the State of California or reciprocity within 18 months; required.
  • 6 to 10+ years of related experience in medium/low voltage power distribution, grounding, lighting, and communications.

Responsibilities

  • Complete electrical designs to support firm-wide projects by working with Project Managers and electrical teammates.
  • Provide design calculations, drawings, and project specifications for power distribution, grounding, lighting, lightning protection, communications, and equipment design.
  • Assist with electrical designs for multidiscipline projects.
  • Travel to sites to investigate conditions and meet project requirements.
  • Support companywide QA/QC processes.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members.

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively searching for an Electrical Engineer with a specialty in power systems to join our Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation (MEI) team in San Diego or Long Beach. The successful Electrical Engineer will work on both large and small projects locally, domestically and internationally. Projects include: ports, cargo terminals, shipyards, large and small marinas, port authority, and municipal. We are looking forward to mentoring and developing your skills in the growing horizontal / infrastructure market! You will work with an international MEI team and Senior Engineers around the company through our intraoffice staff utilization program. Thus, growing your skills beyond the state and country for which you work. You will support projects both on the job site as well as in the office.

  • Complete electrical designs to support firm-wide projects by working with Project Managers (any discipline) and electrical teammates
  • Provide design calculations, design drawings, and project specifications for the following but not limited to:
    • Medium/low voltage power distribution systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Lightning protection systems
    • Communications systems
    • Electrical equipment design (including switchboards and switchgear)
    • Selective coordination and arc flash studies
  • Assist with the electrical designs for multidiscipline projects
  • Assist with evaluations of project scopes
  • Travel to the site or meet with clients, sub-consultants, utilities, and other parties to investigate site conditions and meet project requirements
  • Assist in companywide Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes
  • Successfully communicate and interact with internal and external clients and team members

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology; required
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure in the State of California or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 18 months of hire; required
  • 6 to 10+ years of related experience in:
    • Medium/low voltage power distribution systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Communications systems
    • Electrical equipment design and specifications (including switchboards and switchgear)
    • Power System studies preferred
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit;required
  • Proficiency ETAP or EasyPower and AGI32; preferred
  • Analytical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint), report and letter writing andoral communication skills.
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Base salary range:

$130,000 to $195,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California market.

Physical requirements:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
