Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Washington in Silver Spring, MD is seeking a Wellness Director to lead the daily operations of our wellness center, aligning programs with the Y’s mission of equity and whole-person health. You will oversee programs, staff, and member experience, collaborating across departments to expand impact and ensure accessible, high-quality wellness services for all members of the community.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree (or advanced degree) in exercise science, kinesiology, nutrition or physical education.
• Current nationally recognized fitness certifications (ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA, NSPA).
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Wellness/Fitness department with supervisory experience.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and administrative skills including staff supervision.
• Flexible schedule with availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Excellent communication with staff and diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Operational Leadership: manage wellness center operations, staff, programs, equipment, and schedules.
• Mission-Aligned Programming: ensure programs reflect YMCA values and serve a wide range of community members.
• For All: foster a welcoming environment and remove participation barriers.
• Staff Development: recruit, train, support a diverse team of wellness staff.
• Community Engagement: partner with departments and community organizations to support outreach and youth fitness.
• Measurement & Impact: use feedback and data to improve services and expand impact.
