Job Summary
Responsible for planning, organizing, developing, directing, and delegating the overall operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with current standards, guidelines, regulations, and facility policies. The goal is to ensure the highest quality of care at all times.
Qualifications
- Current, unencumbered RN license in Illinois and/or Wisconsin.
- At least one year of nursing service administration experience.
- Current CPR certification or certification within two weeks of employment.
- Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Ability to make independent decisions.
- Effective communication skills with customers, families, staff, and agencies.
- Leadership and supervisory abilities.
- Personable, enthusiastic, and resourceful personality.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move intermittently throughout the day.
- Ability to handle mental and emotional stress.
- Good sight/hearing or prosthetics enabling these senses.

Essential Functions
- Accept work assignments from authorized personnel, possibly on different floors or with different tasks.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and direct the Nursing Department.
- Ensure all procedures follow policies; review and recommend revisions annually.
- Supervise and instruct staff to promote knowledge.
- Identify problems and develop solutions with administration.
- Promote quality nursing, rehab, and restorative care through a clear philosophy.
- Ensure adequate staffing on all shifts.
- Audit charts and electronic health records for accuracy and completeness.
- Manage laboratory and x-ray reports.
- Oversee transfers, discharges, and documentation quality.
- Develop and participate in care planning and resident conferences.
- Engage with residents’ families and report concerns to the Administrator.
- Recruit, interview, and select staff with approval.
- Schedule staff and manage work hours to meet needs.
- Counsel, discipline, and evaluate staff performance.
- Conduct daily rounds to monitor staff performance and resident care.
- Handle Workmen’s Compensation reports promptly.
- Conduct and participate in staff training and orientation programs.
- Manage supplies and equipment within budget.
- Maintain a reference library of nursing materials.
- Assist in admissions and room assignments.
- Review nursing documentation for quality and accuracy.
- Monitor medication and treatment schedules.
- Ensure licensing compliance of professional staff.
- Report changes in resident condition to families and physicians.
- Participate in meetings related to infection control, quality assurance, etc.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
