Job summary

Wabash in Lafayette, IN is seeking a Welding Technician I to support welding and fabrication processes. You will learn and apply GMAW, basic automated welding, and robotic concepts while training colleagues and contributing to quality and data-driven improvements.

The role demands above-average welding skills, strong communication, and the ability to work with multiple departments. Travel for training may be required; attendance and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

• Score of 51 points on Steel Weld Test.
• Pre-employment drug screen required.
• Minimum 5 years of welding manufacturing experience.
• Formal welding classes preferred but not required.
• Bi-lingual is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform GMAW welding on varied base materials at an above-average quality level.
• Perform basic automated welding and/or basic robotic programming and troubleshooting as required by site.
• Perform basic welding machine programming, troubleshooting and repair.
• Clearly communicate welding expectations and procedures to Production and other Departments.
• Provide training and mentoring to Wabash employees regarding welding processes and practices.
• Travel if necessary (Weld Tech. I travel mainly for training and exposure).
• Self-seek education and new welding technology opportunities.
• Collect, analyze, and report data regarding welding processes and improvements.
• Develop, test and document new welding processes and procedures (WPS, PQR and related testing).
• Complete a monthly Weld Audit schedule and publish results.
• Attend training and learning opportunities.
• Reports to the Welding Technician Supervisor.
