Precision Pulley and Idler (PPI) in Corning, IA, is seeking a full-time parts assembler/welder to produce defined quantities of parts and components according to specifications. You will jig, assemble, weld, and operate various tools and machinery, following prints and technical specs with attention to safety and quality.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and related training or experience; welding certification is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Produce defined quantity of parts and components according to specs.
  • Assemble, weld, and grind parts per drawings and prints.
  • Operate a wire welder and follow weld penetrations and appearance specs.
  • Use hand tools and machinery (lathe, grinder, torch) to meet quality standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organize work area; follow paperwork like schedules and specs.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Produce defined quantity of parts and components according to company and customer specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

More specifically, the employee owner will:

  • Ensure parts and components are accurate according to specifications.
  • Jig, assemble, and weld parts and components.
  • Operate a wire welder; follow specifications in regards to weld penetrations, appearance, and quantity.
  • Operate various hand tools and machinery to meet expectations on quality, including but not limited to lathe, grinder, and torch.
  • Grind, clean, and/or bevel fit-up of welds where required.
  • Use and understand various paperwork (e.g., schedules, prints, technical specifications, etc.).
  • Request and/or gather raw materials, parts, and components necessary to complete task.
  • Perform extra assignments in other areas and related task assignments in the work area.
  • Perform general housekeeping and maintenance within the work area.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong commitment to quality and working safely.
  • After reasonable training will demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and the ability to operate equipment to company specifications.
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn processes.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, handle multiple projects, and exercise disciplined time management.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team without supervision.
  • Demonstrate a consistent and appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Ability to interact with Management Team in a professional manner to continually enhance the company’s performance.
  • Effectively communicate and understand job instructions both verbally and written.
EDUCATION – EXPERIENCE – COMPUTER SKILLS
  • High school diploma or a general education degree (GED); or
  • One to three months related experience and/or training; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
TRAINING – CERTIFICATIONS – LICENSES
  • PPI Weld Certification preferred but not required.
  • Continually participate in additional training related to the job.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee:

  • Must be able to frequently stoop/bend.
  • Must be able to frequently use hands and arms.
  • Must be able to frequently stand and walk.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move more than 50 pounds with assist available.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision.
  • Specific hearing abilities required for this job include the ability to hear equipment alarms and the ability to hear instructions from others.
ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually LOUD.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat (non-weather), risk of radiation and vibration.
  • Regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Steel-toe safety shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection required where posted. Gloves, grinding helmet, welding helmet, welding coat and welding chaps required. Additional PPE may be required depending on the area in which work is being performed.
