Job summary

National Steel and Shipbuilding Com in San Diego is seeking a welder to join our fabrication team, welding shell plating, fabricated cast or forged components according to specifications for vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies.

The role requires qualification in two gas shielded FCAW welding processes (71T-1 and 811N3) in three positions, plus the ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, and to understand English instructions and safety rules.

Qualifications

• Must be able to qualify in two gas shielded FCAW welding processes 71T-1 and 811N3 in the three positions.
• Knowledge of welding characteristics of metal.
• Must be able to work at heights, confined spaces, and any assigned shift.
• Must comprehend written and verbal instructions (in English).
• Must be able to hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings.

Responsibilities

• Welds parts in position for fabrication of vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies.
• Uses carbon electrodes to cut, shape and groove metal.
• May prepare workplace for welding by cleaning and/or preheating.
• Examines weld sizes of weld beads.
• Cleans weld area; sweeps and removes scrap.
• Other job duties as may be assigned relevant to the trade.
