Job summary

National Steel and Shipbuilding Com in San Diego is seeking skilled welders to assemble, cut, and grind metal structural parts for shipbuilding projects. You will align components, tack and weld foundations, and perform layout work using blueprints and reference lines.

Expect to operate high-reach equipment, cranes, and rigging gear while maintaining safety and quality. This role requires standing, climbing, and working in confined spaces per shipyard standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of on the job experience with blueprints and ship terminology.
• Knowledge of different metals and burning, welding and craftsmanship skills.
• T-1 welding certificate required for FCAW; SMAW optional but recommended.
• Ability to pass hands on assessment conducted by NASSCO.

Responsibilities

• Lay out work from blueprint.
• Cut, burn, grind, and fit metal structural parts for placement on ship.
• Tack and weld foundation and structural members.
• Operate high reaching equipment including condors, sky climbers, scissors lift.
• Set up tools and equipment at job site and clean up debris.
• Operate overhead cranes and use rigging equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
