Job summary

Air Liquide is seeking a Research Engineer - Welding to bridge R&D innovations with customer pilot deployments at Newark, DE. You will design, test, and refine welding systems, integrating mechanical components with advanced welding processes for first-of-their-kind prototypes.

You will lead lab development, perform rigorous testing, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful tech transfer and scalable solutions for commercialization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Mechanical or Welding Engineering required.
  • Deep understanding of welding processes and OEM landscape including current equipment.
  • 3–5 years of welding and fabrication experience.
  • Strong metallurgical problem-solving and process optimization abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate innovative welding concepts by integrating customer feedback, testing lab data and cross-functional input.
  • Lead end-to-end development of novel welding systems and deploy lab-tested prototypes to pilot sites.
  • Deploy and validate welding technologies at customer pilot sites and prepare data and parameters for hand-off to engineering teams.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex welding/process issues during prototyping, including defects and metallurgical inconsistencies.
  • Collaborate with R&D, sales, and manufacturing to scale lab-developed welding processes to meet market needs.
  • Manage lab schedules, prototyping resources, and critical documentation to keep pilots on track.
