Job summary

Air Liquide Newark (R&D) seeks a Research Engineer, Welding to bridge early R&D with customer pilots. You will integrate mechanical design, welding metallurgy, and robotic systems to create turnkey welding solutions and validate them in field pilots.

The role emphasizes rigorous problem-solving, hands-on testing, and seamless hand-off to engineering and operations for commercialization and lifecycle support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor in Mechanical or Welding Engineering.
• Deep understanding of welding processes and OEM landscape.
• Experience: 3–5 years in welding and fabrication environment.
• Industrial robot programming, CAD, 3D printing, assembly and use of machine tools.

Responsibilities

• Formulate innovative welding concepts from customer feedback and lab testing.
• Lead end-to-end development of novel welding systems for pilot deployments.
• Deploy and validate welding technologies at customer pilot sites and prepare tech transfer materials.
• Diagnose and resolve welding/process issues during prototyping with metallurgical insight.
• Collaborate with R&D, sales and manufacturing to scale lab processes for market needs.
• Manage lab schedules, prototyping resources, and key documentation for pilots.
